Critical Pedagogy through Genre-Based Pedagogy for Developing Students' Writing Skills: Strategies and Challenges

This current study discusses critical pedagogy, a concept that supports the paradigm of education for cultural transformation. has been considered an essential approach developing students' thinking and awareness social issues. Despite its popularity, implementation pedagogy in classes remains unclear. paper suggests can be concurrent with genre-based (GBP), dominant to teaching writing Indonesia's English language classes. argues teachers use GBP introduce pedagogy. research used descriptive qualitative method, allowing researchers collect data from classroom observation vignettes. The were taken four where participant teacher trained students write argumentative texts. It captured learning process Context Building Text Modelling phases. interpreted analyzed based on themes identified literature. is found principles such as historicity, problem-posing, emancipation, dialogic are evident this study. implications EFL Indonesia, especially when they must adapt "Merdeka Belajar," which promotes thinking.
